Operational Weather Update 4 - 31/01/2010
Published on 31-01-2010     Print Version

Following the extreme weather experienced throughout the UK over the course of the last few weeks conditions have quietened over the past week or so. Further disruption is however forecast for Northern Scotland, in particular across the highlands where heavy snow showers are expected giving accumulations between 5 -10 and up to 20cm on higher ground. For the rest of the UK, wintery showers will continuing to spread to northern, eastern and western parts, especially coasts exposed to the north to north-westerly wind. Mainly drier and brighter inland but still feeling cold.

In response to the adverse weather experienced, the Davies Group can advise as follows:

Davies Loss Adjusting
Over the past 3 weeks, we have seen an increase in claim volumes, up by some 41% against ‘normal’ volumes, most commonly as result of burst pipes and localised flooding.
Additional resources were focused where required and weekend working has ensured that all visits (where accessible) were arranged within SLA’s and the efforts to concentrate on effective and timely mitigation activity has had a significant impact on the extent of repairs now being undertaken.
Claim volumes have now reduced to within ‘normal’ levels allowing us to focus on the management of the WIP generated from the new claims activity.

Davies Managed Systems & BVU (Buildings Validation Unit)
Claims volumes over the last three weeks increased to over 40% of normal levels. This is slowly reducing but currently we are experiencing claims volumes in the region of 15% higher than would be expected. Our surge plan will remain active for the next few weeks with additional staff authorised for weekend working to tackle the increased WIP. Our present focus remains around the management of existing caseloads, inbound call traffic and the new claims process.

Eastwell (Contractor Management) & Davies Response (Disaster Restoration)
Eastwell have seen an increase in instructions over 40% of ‘normal’ levels with levels remaining high on the back of WIP being managed by claims departments and loss adjusters. Additional resources remain in place to ensure continued service delivery in line with SLA’s.
Davies Response experienced a significant increase in new claims activity however within capacity ensuring response times within agreed service levels.

Inspector Field Force
Claims volumes increased by 39% of ‘normal’ levels and continue to remain high however, additional capacity has been bought in to ensure all visits are being arranged / offered within SLA’s.
